Streamlined waste solutions with Mil-tek balers: Sealy’s 19-year journey

Sealy, an Australian bedding manufacturer, operates in Australia, New Zealand, and in other global locations.

The company produces a considerable amount of waste each year, particularly soft plastics. For nearly twenty years, Sealy has collaborated with Mil-tek to optimize its waste management processes and improve environmental sustainability.

Sealy's nearly two-decade partnership with Mil-tek keeps on giving

In this case video,

manufacturing engineer at Sealy’s, Josh Sturgess, talks about how Mil-tek balers have helped Sealy develop and maintain sustainable and highly efficient waste management over the past 19 years.

Efficient Lean waste handling with Mil-tek balers

Sealy is a manufacturing company, naturally embracing Lean manufacturing principles, so they focus a lot on waste reduction and efficiency.

To handle their large volumes of especially soft plastics, but also cardboard and textiles, Sealy relies on their efficient waste management system facilitated by Mil-tek balers.

At their Queensland bedding facility alone, Sealy processes 26 tons of waste annually, predominantly soft plastics. This local effort is part of a broader global initiative where Sealy processes an impressive 133 tons of waste each year.

Baler reliability through 19 years!

Sealy’s investment in these machines has consistently proven valuable over the past 19 years.

Notably, two of Sealy’s seven balers have been in use throughout this period, delivering reliable performance with minimal downtime. These older models are equivalent to the current Mil-tek A305 and A509 models. When issues do arise, Mil-tek’s prompt servicing ensures quick resolutions, minimizing any operational disruptions.

This long-standing partnership underscores Sealy’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency, demonstrating the enduring value of high-quality equipment and responsive support.

Converting waste from source into revenue

In Queensland as well, Sealy has bolstered its waste management approach by integrating the Infinity system from Mil-tek, which effectively sorts waste at source into various streams.

Employees at each workstation diligently separate waste into specific categories, ensuring accurate sorting.

The financial benefits of using Mil-tek balers are evident in Sealy’s operations; With precise sorting from the Infinity system, Sealy can efficiently compact and recycle all waste into their different waste streams, converting each waste stream into a revenue source. This transition from disposal costs to profitable recycling significantly benefits Sealy both environmentally and economically.

Sealy and Mil-tek: A sustainable partnership

The longstanding partnership between Sealy and Mil-tek exemplifies the impact of sustainable practices and innovative solutions. Thanks to this partnership, Sealy has been able to effectively manage waste for almost 20 years, establishing the bar for environmental responsibility in the industry.

Mil-tek balers’ cost-effectiveness has been regularly confirmed, demonstrating Sealy’s dedication to this fruitful collaboration. Together, we have paved the way for innovative waste management techniques that improve Sealy’s financial results and sustainability.
